Starshine, a therapeutic game for the childrens hospital in Affoltern Switzerland. —————————————- ———– Starshine was started during the study course of game design at the Zürich university of the arts and is now, after two long years of development in use at a childrens hospital in Switzerland. The game uses a custom made glove controller for motion tracking of repeadetly used therapeutic exercises for patients who suffer from apoplexia, who had a stroke. This is not as uncommon for children how one might reckon and the rehab process is a long, painfull one. In starshine the main goal is to guide the falling stars to their bed in the clouds before the sunrise. You do so by manipulating geometry objects that represent your left an right hand. The maniplation is done by doing exercises that would be manditory for the healing process, and therefore making a lighter atmosphere for the patient while also disencumbering the therapist for repeating exercises and letting him focus on more hard tasks. Kids are rewarded afterwards with a full avatar system that lets them buy and customize their avatar with over 800 clothing options.
